44.01
Oman-based 44.01 is a carbon removal company turning CO₂ into rock through natural mineralisation. Named after the molecular weight of CO₂, 44.01 accelerates a geologic process that normally takes thousands of years, permanently storing carbon by injecting it into peridotite formations deep underground.
Unlike traditional carbon storage, which relies on long-term monitoring, 44.01’s approach chemically binds CO₂ into stable minerals in under 12 months—making it permanent, low-risk, and verifiable. The company uses captured CO₂ from industrial or direct air sources, dissolves it in water, and injects it into reactive rock, where it safely mineralises without the need for pressurised storage.
Founded in 2020, 44.01 is expanding its operations across Oman and the UAE and is actively exploring global sites with suitable geology. Its work has earned major recognition, including the 2022 Earthshot Prize and a $1 million XPRIZE award in 2025 for Project Hajar, developed with Aircapture. The company raised $42 million in Series A funding by early 2025.
44.01 offers a permanent carbon removal solution that is scalable, secure, and powered by clean energy—positioning it as a key player in the path to net zero.
